Despite what unbelievers would like to believe, God is not fooled. God's judgement is righteous, just, true, correct and appropriate. People can justify it, rationalize it, explain it away or excuse it but, God knows the truth. The "I'm not perfect" defense is nonsense. Swearing is not their only "sin" but it is indicative of what is inside of them. The fact of the matter is that if they stopped using profanity they would STILL not be perfect. The truth is that they swear because they don't have God nor the Holy Spirit inside of them. They can make all sorts of claims but the truth is in their communication. The truth is in their speech, writing, thoughts, actions and life. What is inside WILL come out eventually regardless of whether they want it to or not.
The Book of James talks about the taming of the tongue and basically tells us that if we don't have God nor His spirit, we are wasting our time. The tongue cannot be tamed in our humanness, our imperfections will win out. The devil will play us like a violin and we will be held accountable for our willingness to be used by the devil. The Bible tells us clearly how to avoid the devil, resist the devil and repent of our transgressions. Unfortunately many won't thus the scripture that tells us "narrow is the way and few who find it".
"My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgement. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by firce winds, they are turned by by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who who have been made in the similtude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My breathren these things ought not to be so." - James 3:1 - 3:10
I have to laugh at the excuses, justifications, lies and fabrications that people come up with to explain away their filthy communication. It's as if they think that their "logic" prevails. I guess they ridiculously assume that everyone around them is stupid. It's as if they believe that God won't know. Maybe they believe that though they've been deluded all of their life, that they will somehow know when Jesus returns and suddenly start thinking, writing and talking without profanity. I guess they haven't read the part of scripture that tells us that Jesus will return at a day and hour that we do not expect.
It's sort of like the child who thinks that they have somehow eluded their parents as the profanity spews from their mouth. The child doesn't realize that the parents are standing right behind them as they spew expletives wantonly. When the child finally stops long enough to turn around and realize who was standing there all along, it's too late. The punishment ensues and the child has been caught. In the same way, God is spirit and thus cannot be fooled nor lied to about what has been going on in our mind, writings and speech.
