Accuracy of the Scriptures

Imagine if you will, a courtroom. There is a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, jury and defendant. A heinous crime has taken place. There is also an eyewitness who saw the whole thing. The prosecutor is basing his/her case on the eyewitness testimony.

The eyewitness testimony carries the day and the defendant is found guilty. For those of you who are unaware of what an eyewitness is, I offer this. An eyewitness is someone who saw what happened. They were there when the incident occurred. An eyewitness didn’t hear about the incident. An eyewitness isn’t just stating what they think happened. An eyewitness isn’t just talking about what they have heard. An eyewitness isn’t making it up as they go along either. An eyewitness actually witnessed the event first hand. They were physically on the scene. An eyewitness actually saw the event as it took place. An eyewitness isn’t hearsay, hyperbole, opinion nor guess. An eyewitness KNOWS what happened because they were present when it happened.

So, imagine my surprise when people make wild claims about the Bible based on nothing but what they have heard or read or what someone else has guessed about? Scripture is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by EYEWITNESSES during the lifetime of other EYEWITNESSES. They report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophesies and claim to be divine rather human in origin. What that means is that the scriptures are based on first hand knowledge of events that were brought about by God NOT men!

Did you know that there are about 6,000 manuscripts which ALL state the same things? Did you know that we have manuscripts that are as old as AD 120 to 150? Not old enough you say?

Were you aware that Julius Caesar’s “Gallic Wars” was written about 900 years AFTERWARDS? Aristotle’s “Poetics” was written about 1,300 to 1,400 years AFTER his death? With Homer, we have about 2,100 years AFTER his death before we can put our hands on a manuscript.

Yet these same people will cling to these writings as if they were current! The New Testament was written within the lifetime of eyewitnesses. Which is more reliable? Which had more time to be “changed”? Edited? Rewritten?

Still don’t believe it? Pick up your Bible, dust off the cover and turn to Psalm 22. Psalm 22 was written around AD 30 (BEFORE Jesus was crucified). Notice what it says “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani”. In modern day English it would be “My God, My God why have You forsaken me?” Psalm 22 contains other statements which are also appropriate for someone being crucified as well. Interesting that something so flawed, contrived, edited and changed would be so accurate. As I have challenged before, don't take my word for it, read it for yourself. Most Bibles have an index if you aren’t familiar with where the book of Psalms is, look in the index to find it.

Imagine if you were tasked with finding 6,000 manuscripts and making the exact changes to everyone of them? Imagine using the same ink, the same language, the same words and the same writing. Imagine having to investigate and find 6,000 manuscripts which were scattered all over the countryside. Some hidden, some out in the open, some guarded, some not and some squirreled away for safekeeping. You have to change ALL of them exactly the same! No copiers exist. No computers exist. No microfilm exists. It all has to be done by hand. It is preposterous. It is far fetched. It is wild imagination. It is nonsense.

Many unbelievers claim that they will believe the Bible IF it can be “proven scientifically”. I would challenge you to PROVE to the same standards that George Washington lived and was elected President. I might add that the “scientific method” requires that something be “observable, measurable and repeatable”. How does the “scientific method” square with George Washington’s life and Presidency?

Who “wins” by unbelief, God or the devil? If you go back to the book of Genesis, even in the Garden of Eden, the devil was casting doubt and trying to lure people away from God, why would that be?

This is funny. Everyone knows eyewitness evidence is the least reliable evidence in a court case. By the way, the scientific method does not apply to historical research.

The “scientific method” doesn’t apply to historical events? I guess the “scientific method” only applies when it lines up with what the Liberal believes then…

The scientific method does not apply to historical research, not because of the beliefs of Liberals, but because one cannot conducted experiments.

Like I said, one excuse after another in order to keep up the Liberal perspective. You can lie and claim it’s not about “Liberal beliefs” until you are blue in the face but, your words tell otherwise.

            What lie have I told?

The lie that said that “it’s not about Liberal beliefs”. Aren’t able to read nor comprehend what you wrote? There is also the excuse regarding the “scientific method”, if it wasn’t that excuse, it’d be some other excuse.

That’s not a lie. It is a perfectly accurate statement. History cannot be re-run, therefore, experiment is impossible, thus, the scientific method does not apply to scientific research. None of this has anything to do with Liberal beliefs or excuses. It is just a matter of facts and logic.

That’s the problem, lying becomes so second nature to Liberals that they don’t even recognize a lie anymore. They believe that the lie is “perfectly accurate”. In the same way, Liberals will believe that “science” will save them. It’s sort of like a frog in a pot of water, he/she will sit there as the water gets hotter and hotter never knowing that eventually they will boil to death.

The point is that there will always be those who find every excuse in the book not to believe. They will claim that the scientific method wasn’t used. When you point out to them that the scientific method cannot be used, they will find some other excuse why they cannot or will not believe. Every excuse to break will just bring about another because in the end, they really don’t want to believe. When they get face to face with God and He tells them “Depart from me, I never knew you.” THEN and only then will they realize that it was all a lie as their excuses melt away before their very eyes. As I’ve said many times, you cannot force anyone to become a Christian. Some will and some will not. As the Bible says: “Narrow is the way and few who find it.”

Is there any difference between a history book and the Bible ?
Each “reports” actual events taking place at the times.
The Bible is part of history though personally I would not use the word “supernatural”.
In my humble opinion I think the books of the Bible not only eyewitness reports but actual experiences by those reporting in part.
The Scriptures are very accurate but the problem lies with interpretation and who’s doing it.
The interpreters are Not the eyewitnesses. They are the ones who bestow (liberal)doubt.
Personally I don’t care about the doubters…just read what the true witnesses and the books say.

The difference between History books and the Bible is that History books are composed and written by man for men’s purpose by men’s perspective and for men’s purposes. The Bible is God breathed, for His purpose, with His perspective, for His purposes and by His perfect will. Human’s are intrinsically liars if left to their own devices while God ALWAYS tells the truth. As the Bible says, “narrow is the way and few who find it.”
